The global landscape of public health is undergoing an irreversible shift, demanding a fundamental re-evaluation of traditional research and intervention paradigms. Participatory approaches are no longer merely an option but have become a mandatory requirement, particularly when working with ethnic minorities and migrant communities. This imperative is amplified by the transformative advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Large Language Models (LLMs), which present both unprecedented opportunities and significant risks for health equity. This seminar will explore the challenges and profound experiences of implementing participatory approaches in health research and programs with ethnic minorities and migrants, drawing heavily on compelling Australian case studies to argue for the essential nature of genuine co-creation in this evolving digital era.

 

 

Visiting scholar:

  • Dr. Michael Camit is a highly accomplished public health professional with 28 years of extensive experience in consumer and community engagement, including 25 years within the NSW public sector in Australia. As an Adjunct Fellow at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) in both the School of Public Health and School of Management, and Manager of Health Literacy at South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD), he is dedicated to improving health outcomes for diverse communities.
