Seminar: WORLD DEVELOPMENT REPORT 2023 – migrants, refugees and societies
The Minister for Development Cooperation and Global Climate Policy, Dan Jørgensen, and the Migration Research Platform1 at University of Copenhagen invites you to attend a discussion about the World Bank Groups flagship World Development Report 2023: Migrants, Refugees and Societies (WDR23).
Migration is a development challenge. About 184 million people - including 37 million refugees - live outside their country of nationality, of which 43% reside in low- and middle–income countries.
With a rise in global challenges from climate-related disasters, economic imbalances, shifting demographic trends, conflict and war managing the impacts of migration is of global importance in the years to come. The WDR23 suggests that when migration is well managed it can contribute to economic growth and well-being in both countries of origin and destination and for migrants and refugees themselves.
By introducing a ‘Match-Motive Framework’ the WDR23 makes policy recommendations that can address human mobility, depending on how migrants’ skills match the needs of destination countries and the underlying motives of their movements.
