Maria Kristiansen

Associate Professor

Current research

Involved in health services research focusing on health care innovations, equitable public health interventions, integrated and personalised healthcare, and participatory community-based health promotion.

Key thematic areas are healthy aging, equality in health and access to quality healthcare, migration/ethnicity, and evidence-based service delivery models.

Competencies within a range of research methods including systematic reviews, register-based studies, surveys, clinical audits and qualitative methods.

Creating societal impact through stakeholder engagement and innovative approaches are driving forces for my research and outreach activities. User engagement, participatory approaches, and creativity in teaching and dissemination to public and private stakeholders are important elements in my work.

I am Research Group Leader in Center for Healthy Aging; member of the Daily Leader Board in Research Center for Integrated Rehabilitation for Cancer Patients (CIRE); Associate Editor for the BMC Health Services Research journal, and actively engaged in consultancy for various stakeholders. In addition, I supervise PhD students and I am involved in assessment of grant applications and academic work (at the MSc and PhD levels) nationally and internationally. 


Fields of interest

Equitable public health interventions; healthy aging; patient and user involvement; integrated care; personalised healthcare; community-based interventions; social and ethnic inequality in health; equitable public health interventions; evidensebased healthcare; cancer, diabetes, allergy and cardiovascular diseases.


Teaching: A range of different academic programs including the BA and MA in Public Health Sciences, the Master of Public Health (MPH) program, the MA in Global Health, MA in Health Sciences and BA in Human Nutrition.

Examination: At a range of programs including the BA and MA in Public Health Sciences, Global Health and MPH at University of Copenhagen. I am involved in assessment of PhD students and a member of the External Assessment Board in Public Health.

Supervision: PhD students, students from different academic programs at University of Copenhagen, and students from the Master Programme in Public Health, University of Lund, Sweden.
