The Health System

MESU’s research on health services focus mainly on migrants’ access to, use and effects of healthcare. Since the formal status of migrants play a major role for entitlements and access to healthcare, our research has a particular interest in investigating this in different migrant groups with a special focus on ethnic inequality.

We carry out studies that investigate how social factors, health policy, organizational structures and processes, medical technology and innovations, health personnel’s’ attitudes and personal behaviors as well as self-assessed need affect use of healthcare services but also health outcomes, including the quality of services. Our research has both a national and international comparative perspective.

The applied methods are quantitative methods: epidemiological studies using survey and registry data as well as medical records; policy analyses; qualitative methods as well as intervention studies and often using a multidisciplinary approach.
